Las Vegas - Hoover Dam

Home

This National Historic Landmark is rated as one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders. The 4,360,000 cubic yards of concrete used to build it would be enough to pave a 16-foot-wide highway from New York City to San Francisco. Lake Mead was created by this massive storage area which holds two years of flow from the Colorado River. Visitors are whisked 520 feet down to the bottom of Black Canyon to view the hydroelectric generators. A special Hard Hat Tour offering a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of the dam is available for USD25 per person. Reservations are recommended for this tour. Admission to the Hoover Dam Visitor Center, which includes a 35-minute guided tour, is USD10 for adults, USD8 seniors, USD4 kids 6-16 and free for children under 6.
